Netflix Acquires Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman'

Welcome to 2017, where Martin Scorsese's long-awaited The Irishman, which will reunite him with Robert De Niro for the first time since 1995, is heading straight to Netflix. Sheeran, who died in 2003, also allegedly confessed to his involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in addition to killing Jimmy Hoffa, a teamster leader who went missing during the summer of 1975.

In a bidding war with Lionsgate, Fox and Universal, "The Irishman" sold for $50 million to rising studio STX Entertainment. Unlike Amazon, Netflix's streaming rival which releases its films in theaters before they appear online, Netflix releases the films it distributes online the same day as in theaters. Netflix has not yet commented on the deal.
