Suspended Raiders Star Aldon Smith Under Investigation for Domestic Violence

Smith was given a one-year suspension in November 2015 because of a hit-and-run incident where he was charged with driving under the influence. A police spokeswoman told the San Francisco Chronicle that Smith has not been arrested and that he and his accuser are cooperating with investigators.

Though he was not arrested, the case is said to be still under "active investigation".

A report on Monday indicated that police had responded to a domestic incident involving Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith over the weekend and the San Francisco Police Department confirmed that they responded to a call involving Smith.

Smith has been in and out of trouble with the law throughout his entire career, and hasn't played in an National Football League game since 2015 due to multiple suspensions. His current banishment stems from an August 2015 incident that brought misdemeanor charges of DUI, hit and run and vandalism and ultimately got him released by the 49ers.

Smith, who signed with the Raiders in 2015, filed for reinstatement to the league October 3 before meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell. His 2014 season did not begin until after he served a nine-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse and personal conduct policy, limiting him to just seven games in what would be his final season with the 49ers.

Going in to the 2016 season, Smith signed a two-year contract worth $11.5 million but has yet to collect on any of it while under banishment.
