Dustin Johnson leapfrogged Jason Day as world No 1 after cruising to a five-shot victory at the Genesis Open.

Pat Perez, the third player in the final group, hit more spectators with his tee shots in the third round (three) than he managed birdies (two) and fell entirely off the leaderboard.

Johnson put on quite the show this week and led the field in strokes gained off the tee and strokes gained total, was third in strokes gained putting, second in strokes gained tee to green and, no surprise here, led the field in driving distance. Johnson has won every year on the PGA Tour except for 2014, which was cut short when he stepped away for six months to seek professional help for personal challenges amid a published report he had tested positive twice for drugs.

With his five-shot victory, he became the 20th player since the world ranking began in 1986 to reach No. 1.

As well, Johnson joined Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Genesis Open tournament host, Tiger Woods in now having won at least one tournament a year in his first 10 years on the Tour.

She also added: "I didn't call, but Leslie has known him for so long". "They're going to be awesome parents", said Damon. "If someone asks me I would tell them, but I'm not the person just like, 'Oh, here's what you should do".

Play was suspended for the day not long after gusting wind brought down part of a eucalyptus tree on the rain-soaked course. "I guess that's all that matters", Johnson said with a dose of the accidental understatement he so favours.

"I know I can play out here, I think I've proved that", she said.

Johnson has two top ten finishes already this year, and the win this week was good enough to finally launch him to number one. "Because he's playing some good golf". The win caps a great week for the couple who announced a few days ago they are expecting their second child.

But now that he is there, he said: "It's going to just push me to keep working harder and stay there".

Hideki Matsuyama of Japan, who also entered the event with a mathematical chance of supplanting Day, was three-over for the tournament after 15 holes. It's his first win since the 2016 BMW Championship, also as a 54-hole leader, and a sixth top 5 at Riviera in 10 tries.

China's kicks off 2017 with above-forecast trade numbers
Commodity imports, such as iron ore, crude oil and coal, continued to grow in January, featuring general price rises. China's trade performance rebounded strongly last month with an unexpected bounce in both imports and exports.

Johnson, 32, carded a par 71 on the final day to finish on 17 under with compatriot Scott Brown and Belgium's Thomas Pieters tied second on 12 under.

Olympic champion Justin Rose finished in a four-way tie for fourth on 11-under, a shot ahead of Laird, who had an eagle and five birdies in his closing 66.

Asked earlier in the week if getting to No. 1 in the world was important to him, Johnson was nonchalant. I look at the world golf ranking, but it's not like my goal is, I want to get to No. 1 this week.

"I don't need to compete against my grandfather's career", he said.
