DTE Energy released a graphic Friday that shows over half a million customers have had their power restored after a massive outage that was caused by Wednesday's wind storm. "All of us at Consumes Energy appreciate our customers' patience as we commit to working 24/7 until our final customers have their energy restored following this damaging wind storm".

DTE says it was the most significant weather event it has experienced in its more than 100-year history.

The governor urged residents to stay clear of downed power lines and to check in on neighbors and family members, especially the elderly and people with health issues that hinder their mobility. Almost 2,000 customers were without power Thursday.

"We are reaching out across the region to bring in crews to help us with this", a company spokesman said in a video.

The Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect through noon, with gusts of more than 45 miles per hour possible.

Power problems aside, the high winds also caused property damage across the St. Cloud area.

In South Bend/Elkhart, I&M expects to have the 200 customers still without power restored by 10 p.m. Thursday.

"It's a major storm and it's going to be a multi-day storm as far as restoration", Dodd said.

"We've had about 630,000 customers affected at this point", said DTE Electric President Trevor Lauer said Wednesday afternoon.

DTE Energy says 700,000 of its customers lost power in southeastern MI and more than 670,000 were without service early Thursday. Treat every downed power line as if it is energized.

Harper Creek Community Schools closed Wattles Park Elementary School at 12:30 p.m., also due to an outage, according to the school's Facebook page.
