North Korea Claims Success in Test of New Rocket Engine

North Korea has tested a new type of high-thrust engine, with leader Kim Jong Un hailing it as "a historic day which can be called "March 18" revolution'".

The rocket engine tested Saturday was developed by the North's Academy of the National Defence Science and marked the start of a "Juche-based rocket industry", the Korean Central News Agency report said, alluding to the North Korean concept of "self reliance".

The new engine is an ambitious development with regards to North Korea's long-range missiles.

It staged its two latest nuclear tests a year ago and recently fired off missiles that it described as practice for an attack on United States bases in Japan.

The U.S.is now undergoing a review of its North Korea policy, with President Donald Trump dispatching Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to the region for meetings in Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing, as Washington grapples with the seemingly intractable issue.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has pushed back against the tougher United States line on North Korea, reiterating his country's view that the only way to rein in its reclusive neighbour is through talks.

It said the test was meant to confirm the engine's thrust power and gauge the reliability of its control system and structural safety.

And although Google compared Guetzli to mozjpeg and another JPEG encoder called libjpeg , there are other options, too. For Google's Guetzli speed boost, researchers developed a test called Butteraugli created to model human vision.

They said judging by the flame and duration of the burn, the latest engine could carry a rocket or missile over 5,500 kilometers. However, the regime has reportedly refused to scale down its missiles tests. "We believe there is even an important person (among them)".

Juche refers to North Korea's homegrown ideology. "China has done little to help!"

Mr Wang spoke at a briefing in Beijing with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who in Seoul on Friday refused to rule out a preemptive strike against Pyongyang if the threat from its weapons program was deemed severe enough. We are exploring a new range of security and diplomatic measures.

"There is a possibility that the North will provoke other countries by firing off an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) or launch a satellite soon", the scholar said.
