Sierra Leone discovers huge diamond

All Fr. Momoh is admitting is he discovered a 706-carat alluvial diamond in Yakadu village in Sierra Leone. In 1972 the 968.9-carat Star of Sierra Leone was found by miners.

The huge rock was extracted by Mr Emmanuel Momoh, one of the thousands who seek their fortunes in the informal mining sector that dominates the diamond-rich Kono region.

'Receiving the diamond President Koroma thanked the chief and his people for not smuggling the diamond out of the country'.

"I have to help the government and my people, so all of us can benefit", presidential spokesman Abdulai Bayraytay quoted Momoh as saying.

Any target over 200 is likely to prove hard to chase, particularly if New Zealand have to score at four or more per over to do so. The day had produced only 186 runs and five wickets. "He will come back tomorrow morning - I know him to be like that".

The present government is taking a firm line against illicit diamond trading.

The black diamond was discovered in Brazil in 1893.

Even if the new diamond gets the Kimberley Process stamp of approval, the citizens of Sierra Leone are already sceptical they will benefit from the sale.

The government plans to auction the precious stone and said the selling process would be "transparent".

Turkey foreign minister insists on Netherlands visit
Mr Rutte warned in a statement that the Turkish threat of sanctions made "the search for a reasonable solution impossible". In response to the foreign minister's comments, Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte said: "it's a insane remark, of course".

The largest diamond ever, "Sergio", a black diamond weighing 3167 carats, was found in Brazil in 1893. Even with a blemish, the diamond could easily be worth millions.

A 1,111-carat diamond was discovered at a Botswana mine in 2015, the biggest find for more than a century.

Momoh told The Associated Press that he turned in the diamond because he was touched by the development being undertaken in Kono District, where the gem was found. That 3,106-carat stone was cut into several polished gems and the two largest pieces are part of Britain's crown jewels.

The world's most expensive diamond, found in Bostwana, was 813 carats and sold for $63 million past year.

If anything was out there, it would bounce the signal back to the 330-foot Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia. The Chandrayaan-1 has been located at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.

He said potential buyers would have to come to Sierra Leone for transparency and accountability.
